5th Anniversary Maryland Tennis Event at Homeland Racquet Club in Lutherville, Maryland
On May 20th, R Baby’s Maryland Chapter held its 5thAnniversary Maryland Tennis Event at Homeland Racquet Club in Lutherville, Maryland.
On a beautiful sunny day, players and spectators enjoyed an exciting day of tennis. Fourteen pros played in the Men’s Doubles Pro Tournament. Finalists John Mook and Matt Stillwagon battled in a close match which ultimately went to three sets! Paul Burgin and Justin Shane eventually triumphed.
New this year was a Junior Tournament with the young players providing great excitement! The winners were Josh Solomon in the singles division and Paige Pearre and Remi Schaller in the doubles division.
The Pro/Am Tournament consisted of ten teams, and after many fun Round-Robin games, the winners were Adam Lawton and Robby Saltzman.
Thank you to Matt Bilger for putting the Pro Tournament together and coordinating all the amazing Pros! We also thank Lisa Asher once again for putting together an amazing afternoon of fun as well as raising awareness of the need for and of the accomplishments of R Baby Foundation.
Throughout the five years of this annual event, R Baby’s Maryland Chapter has funded almost $350,000, including over $31,000 raised from the 2018 event, toward programs in Maryland. The MD chapter has helped to fund the Rebecca Ava Rabinowitz Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital which has made rapid strides in the detection of multiple viruses and is now standard of care in most institutions.
In addition, in conjunction with a grant developed by Yale, Columbia and Johns Hopkins Hospitals, R Baby’s Maryland Chapter is currently funding simulation training in five community ERs throughout Maryland. Funds raised at this event will continue to provide this critical training to more ERs in Maryland so that they will be better equipped to handle the care of infants and children.
